Assam Right to Public Service Act 2012 was enacted in 2012 to provide services to the citizen in timely manner. The Act came into force on 19 April 2012 in all the Districts except the Sixth Scheduled Districts.
As per this Act, there is one Designated Public Servant (DPS) notified in the Department/District who is responsible for delivery of the notified Public Service within the stipulated time limit. If the DPS fails to deliver the service within stipulated time period then the applicant may prefer appeal before the Reviewing Authority after hearing the case, the Reviewing Authority may impose penalty on the DPS and order to provide the services.
So far 55 services of 14 Departments have been brought within in the ambit of this Act and attempt are taken to include more services in future.
With a view to extend the services in the Sixth Scheduled Districts Government have written to the Principal Secretaries of the three Autonomous Councils.
